Robert D. Hinnen, M.S.W.

Founder/Senior Philanthropic Consultant

 

With over three decades of leadership in philanthropy, Robert Hinnen is a trusted mentor and advisor, renowned for his practical approach to fundraising, organizational development, and stakeholder engagement. His expertise spans prospecting, donor cultivation, stewardship, and strategic planning, helping mission-driven organizations and businesses build sustainable revenue streams.

Since founding Hinnen Philanthropy Advisors in 2020, Robert has delivered accessible and results-driven consulting services to small and mid-sized nonprofits nationwide. Now, as part of the firm’s evolution, Robert is expanding his impact beyond philanthropy—leveraging his deep industry experience to support corporate clients with prospecting, lead generation, and business development strategies.

His leadership track record includes key executive roles at Global Action to End Smoking, Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation, Lupus Research Alliance, and the Sudden Infant Death (SIDS) Center of New Jersey, where he helped organizations secure critical funding and foster meaningful supporter relationships.

Robert holds a Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) from Fordham University and a Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.) from the University of Kansas. Beginning his career in social work and bereavement counseling, he discovered his passion for fundraising—combining his empathetic understanding of human connection with actionable strategies to drive mission-aligned success.

A strong believer in lifelong learning, Robert was recently approved as one of the exclusive national firm members of the prestigious Association of Philanthropic Counsel (APC). Robert is also preparing to earn his Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential, solidifying his standing as a leading expert in philanthropic and data driven and ethics enriched fundraising strategies. 

Beyond his professional endeavors, Robert enjoys traveling, reading, game nights, exploring new cuisines, genealogy research, and spending time with his life partner and other loved ones—including his cherished ‘fur-babies,’ Winston, Sebastian, and Siena
